Munster Softball continued its dominant season with a hard-fought 6-4 home win over conference rival Hanover Central on Monday, May 5. The Mustangs improved to 18-3 overall and a perfect 9-0 in conference play, extending their winning streak to ten games. The game was held in honor of Teacher Appreciation Night, with each player recognizing an educator who made a meaningful impact on their journey. Mrs. Barsic, Ms. Banas, Mr. Popa, Ms. Westland, Mrs. Nolan, Ms. Brosseu, Mr. Herald, Mrs. Bell, Mr. Stepnowski, Mr. Kalwasinski, Mrs. Chidichimo, Mr. Hall, Mrs. Amanditis, and Mrs. LaPorte were celebrated by the MHS softball players for all their teachers' support and guidance. On the diamond, it was another standout night for Ally Compton, who went 2-for-3 at the plate with two home runs, driving in five runs and scoring twice. In the bottom of the third, after Caroline Wendlinger was hit by a pitch and Maddy Marlowe singled, Compton launched her first home run of the night to give Munster an early lead. Hanover responded with two runs in the top of the fourth, but Munster came right back. After two quick outs in the bottom of the inning, Wendlinger doubled, Marlowe singled her home, and Compton struck again with another homer to stretch the lead. Hanover made a push in the top of the seventh, scoring two runs, but Munster’s pitching held firm. Kaylee O’Connell earned the win, pitching 3.2 innings with 6 strikeouts and allowing 4 hits. Compton also shined on the mound, closing out the final 3.1 innings with 6 strikeouts and just 2 hits. The JV also defeated Hanover Central 11-8. Both teams return to action on Tuesday.
