The Munster varsity baseball team battled hard but came up just short in a 6-5 home loss to Hobart on Wednesday, resulting in a split of the two-game series with the conference rival. The Mustangs had taken Game 1 convincingly, 10-4, on Tuesday night. After falling behind 4-0 early, Munster responded with a three-run third inning and a two-run fourth to take a 5-4 lead. Senior Nate Southwell delivered a big two-RBI double, while Mason Jarrett also drove in a run and added a double. However, Hobart answered with two runs in the sixth and held off a Mustang rally in the seventh to seal the win. Offensively, Munster was led by Southwell (1-for-3, 2 RBI), D. Craig (2-for-4, RBI), and N. Iatrides (2-for-3). On the mound, B. Cappetto and J. Kunas combined to strike out seven while allowing just four runs across seven innings. Despite the loss, the Mustangs showed resilience and offensive depth. They’ll look to bounce back as they continue NCC play and build momentum for the rest of the season.
