Munster Splits Weekend Games, Stays Perfect in Conference Play The Munster Mustangs experienced a weekend of highs and lows, falling in a tightly contested 58-57 loss to Gary West Side on Friday before bouncing back with a dominant 61-34 conference victory over Lowell on Saturday. With the split, Munster improved to 12-7 overall and 3-0 in NCC play, keeping their conference championship hopes alive. Friday’s matchup against West Side was a back-and-forth battle that saw eight lead changes and five ties. Munster held a slim 34-30 halftime lead and extended the margin to as much as 10 points, but a strong second-half push by West Side proved to be the difference. Joshua Malloy led Munster with 20 points, while Troy Jarret added 13, going 9-for-11 from the free-throw line. The Mustangs shot an impressive 76.5% from the line, but a tough fourth quarter saw their offense stall, scoring just nine points as West Side edged out the win. Munster wasted no time bouncing back on Saturday, delivering a dominant performance against Lowell. After an even first quarter, the Mustangs outscored the Red Devils 19-6 in the second, taking full control of the game. Blake Trilli led with 16 points, while Victor Guaramato and Troy Jarret combined for 23. Munster shot an impressive 55.3% from the field and 54.5% from three, using efficient offense and 33 defensive stops to overwhelm Lowell. With their conference record still unblemished, the Mustangs will look to carry their momentum into another tough non-conference matchup. They travel to Gary 21st Century on Tuesday, February 18th, at 7 PM, aiming to build on their strong play and continue sharpening their game as the season progresses.
